I’ve had so many great comments and request for more articles on this and other subjects, I decided to write a part 2 on Power.
Here goes then!!!

Power? Awareness Birmingham United Kingdom
For those of you who haven’t read part 1, I will recap my definition of what power is.
To have true power for me, I believe, is complete control of oneself. Having discipline, being focused and at the same time have character traits that are loving and compassionate.
Most of us in this time feel very powerless because we feel we have to control all the outside things that a happen to us.
Although to be powerful we have to make things happen and stop the things that happen to us deem us powerless.
How do we start making things happen? Awareness Birmingham United Kingdom
Well, let’s see…….
Think and tell yourself you are in control of your life.
Tell yourself that it’s your life.
Ask who is the master of your life, the sailor of your ship?
Ask yourself if you are the captain or a crew member?
REMEMBER – You cannot control the things that happen on the outside but
you CAN control how you re-act to them.
Charles R Swindoll said “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”
Oliver Wendell Holmes said “Have the courage to act instead of react”
So, why is it better to ACT than REACT
To REACT means – To act in response to or under the influence of a stimulus or prompting or to act in opposition to a former condition or act
To ACT means – The process of doing or performing something or something done or performed; a deed
Which one do you think is more Powerful?
Scenario: You are told that there will be redundancies coming up and that your job may be one of roles targeted for redundancy. You are also told that there will be a redundancy package and the first redundancies could happen as soon as the end the month.
How would you re-act?
Do You: (A) – Start to worry about getting another job, how you will pay your mortgage, talk about how bad it will be or get. Sit hoping that your job isn’t one that is made redundant
Do You: (B) – Find out what this could mean for you, your options, any other opportunities that could arise from this. Do you start thinking about the dreams you had of starting your own business or changing your career. Do you explore the possibilities that you didn’t pursue as you had a security where you was.
How did you re-act? With Power or Powerless?
Looking at things with a positive perspective gives choice, excitement and pushes towards action and the lesson learnt will always put you in a position of Power!!!!!
Ralph Waldo Emerson said “There is no knowledge that is not power”
When you know you cannot control what is outside of you but you can control how you re-act to it, you realise that having that knowledge puts you in a place of Power!!!!
The Power to control ourselves is good; it gives choice, excitement and pushes towards action.
When you know what you know – you are in a place of Power!!!!
Having Power and being Powerful comes from having a strong sense of self, knowing what you want, knowing what you don’t want and being able to keep focused on what you do want.
So what are the basic ingredients in having Power and Being Powerful?
For me it has to be SELF-AWARENESS
Step One – Truly Knowing Yourself
- Your strengths
- Your weakness
- Your beliefs
- Your values
- Your character traits
- Your personality traits
- Your habits
- Your needs
- Your feelings
- What you think about yourself
- What you tell to yourself
- How you see yourself
- How you want others to see you
Step Two – Gain Knowledge and Awareness
- how the mind works
- How our thoughts are constructed
- How we build our believes
- How we build our habits
- How we build character
- How values are built
Step Three – Recognise, Acknowledge, Accept then Take Action
Use what you have learnt above to:
- Recognise who you are
- Acknowledge who you are
- Accept who you are
- Then Take Action to take control of your life
- You’re now Powerful!
You now have the basic ingredients for having Power and Being Powerful!
