What is self-love?

Self-love can easily be defined as the love that you give and have for yourself.  However, in today’s society self-love has little or no look in, in most people’s lives.

Self-love is the hardest type of love to get to grips with, although when you do, the rewards of having a healthy love for yourself proves to be priceless.  You see to love yourself, you first have to like yourself, and most of us cannot truly say we like ourselves, let alone love.

Power of Gratitude

The practice of gratitude as a tool for happiness has been in the mainstream for years.  Long-term studies support gratitude’s effectiveness, suggesting that a positive, appreciative attitude contributes to greater success in work, greater health, peak performance in sports and business, a higher sense of well-being, and a faster rate of recovery from surgery.

But while we may acknowledge gratitude’s many benefits, it still can be difficult to sustain. So many of us are trained to notice what is broken, undone or lacking in our lives.  For gratitude to meet its full healing potential in our lives, it needs to become more than just a Thanksgiving word.  We have to learn a new way of looking at things, a new habit. And that can take some time.

Being Grateful

Today I woke up and realised that I was not as grateful as I thought I was!

It’s easy being grateful and having gratitude for the things we want in our life, when they appear, but what about the things that turn up that we do not ask for, although they are still positive but do not look like the things we requested.

The reason for my realisation, was that all my life I had wanted to have a loving family.  A family that accepted me for who I am and loved me for no other reason than being me.  I dreamed of that loving family being my family, and for years and years, I would do anything for them to accept me, love me and want me around.  Don’t get me wrong, I would have this from my family in spurts but nothing regular, realising that these spurts only happened when they wanted something from me.

Balanced Life!

I always wanted what is referred to, as a ‘balanced life’, where everything measures up in proportion with everything else.  However, I have come to the conclusion that life does not run in that way.

You see life naturally has highs, lows, twists and turns, with some of the highs more extreme than others and the same with the twists, turns and lows.  So the thing that we need to consider about having balance in our lives is whether we are talking about a balance of things, physical things, or having balance from within ourselves to cope with the things we have going on in our lives and these highs, and lows that naturally come along for the ride.
